Portraing the west as the rich, the east as the well off, and the south, crowded, with the less lucky ones.
Scientists and especially physicists have believed that they would be able to show why our universe is as it is as a necessary consequence of certain fundamental principles and laws. What has happened in the last 15 years is they now believe that our universe is just one of a vast number of universes all with very different physical properties. And all of these different universes originate from the same fundamental principles, in that case there’s no possibility of explaining why our universe is a necessary consequence of the fundamental principles, there are many different possibilities, and our universe is just one lucky draw from the hat. In which case we are accidental, we are an accidental universe, and so the historic mission of physics is no longer feasible, it’s no longer possible. This conclusion makes theoretical physicists extremely unhappy because it means that a lot of their mission is an illusion. But that may be the way nature is.
I’ve seen wars start with less.
Tentman! He’s not giving much hope to save the world if the world needs it, but at least he’s trying.
The Swiss are asking themselves if the country abandons its status as a tax haven and starts accepting only clean money, whether their prosperity will survive or not.
An 82-year-old woman died after an attack by a toxic bear in Fukushima Prefecture. A Dutch minister was criticised for saying “death is a risk burglars run“. Newark has introduced a bill to require motorists to secure dogs and felines with a seatbelt-like harness if they’re not being transported in crates.
The Daughter of Dawn, an 80-minute film shot in July of 1920 in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.
It was unique in the annals of silent film for having a cast of 300 Comanches and Kiowas who brought their own clothes, horses, tipis, everyday props and who told their story without a single reference to the United States Cavalry.
It was a love story, a four-person star-crossed romance that ends with the two main characters together happily ever after. There are two buffalo hunt sequences with actual herds of buffalo being chased down by hunters on bareback just as they had done on the Plains 50 years earlier.
«Dawn Loggins spent much of her life moving from one home to another and switching schools, but she never thought she’d be homeless. During her senior year at Burns High School in Cleveland County, N.C., she was forced into “couch-surfing” at friends’ houses and relying on her part-time job as a school custodian.
Last summer, after returning from a prestigious academic summer program in Raleigh, N.C., she found her parents were gone from the home they shared in North Carolina. She had no way to reach them because their phone services had been disconnected. It would be a few months before she learned that they had gone to Tennessee for a visit and decided to stay. Before her homeless ordeal, Dawn recalled having to do homework by candlelight because the power had been disconnected and having to cook noodles on a wood stove after her mother and stepfather lost their jobs. Focusing on her school work, she said, helped her deal with the family’s circumstances. Next year should be better: She’ll be attending Harvard University — the only student from her school ever accepted there, according to ABC News station WSOC. “I was kind of surprised,” the 18-year-old said of learning she was accepted. “I didn’t jump and down or scream or cry or anything, but I was happy. I guess I’m not easily exited. I’m not a very emotional person.”
“Education is a means to make something better of myself.”»
Baptist pastor Charles Worley of North Carolina has a plan to get rid of the scourge that is gays and lesbians. His proposal, is to “build a great big, large fence–100 miles long–put all the lesbians in there, fly over and drop some food. Do the same thing with the queers and homosexuals and that fence electrified so they can’t get out…and in a few years they will die out.”
I wonder why no one else thought of this before, this is a brilliant plan.
Everybody knows homosexuals cannot reproduce in captivity, like Pandas they have a really hard time doing so. :)
