The Queen of Katwe

The story of Phiona Mutesi is a mate to one’s feelings.

The chess term checkmate comes from the Persian Shah Mat, which means “the king is defeated”.

She is already a Master of her Fate.

  1. I used to play a lot if chess as a young girl (not for any formal competitions, just for fun). I never knew where the origins of “Checkmate” came from.
