The king and the crown prince prayed to unite the ranks of the Muslims and enable them practice the values of the religion in their lives, Culture and Information Minister Abdul Aziz Khoja said while reading out their joint message: “In this blessed month, in its days and nights, the noblest Islamic values are spread. The big sympathizes with the small, the rich supports the poor and the entire society shows mercy and affection bringing out the radiant image of Islam and how it shaped the Ummah and how its civilization was established stressing on justice, tolerance and mutual support (…)”. Sheikh Salman al-Awdah, one of Saudi Arabia’s preeminent Salafist preachers, is promoting – sort of – democracy. Sheikh Salman al-Awdah took to his Twitter feed and Facebook page to proclaim: “Democracy might not be an ideal system, but it is the least harmful, and it can be developed and adapted to respond to local needs and circumstances.” Although Awdah notably made his announcement on his English and not Arabic social media platforms, where his audience numbers in the millions rather than the tens of thousands, the sentiment is still positively Churchillian.
That was fast!? :)
